Whether you re trying to understand a diagnosis, choose between treatment options, or changing a medication, you can get a virtual second opinion through 2nd.MD. Within days by video or phone, you’ll be connected with a doctor who will provide personalized information to help you understand your options.

Keeping care on track

Preventive care - such as routine annual checkups and certain recommended screenings and immunizations - is covered by most UnitedHealthcare plans for $0 out-of-pocket when you see network providers. A preventive care visit may be a good time to help establish your relationship with your primary care provider. It can also help you manage your health and create a connection for future medical services.

With 24/7 Virtual Visits, you can connect to a provider by phone or video* – on myuhc.com or the UnitedHealthcare® app. Providers can diagnose and treat a wide range of health conditions, including many of the same conditions as an emergency room (ER) or urgent care. Providers may even prescribe medication**, if needed.

Pregnancy and Childbirth Care

  • Hospitals:  Scripps La Jolla, Scripps Encinitas, Scripps Mercy San Diego and Chula Vista (none at Scripps Green)

Classes and Support Groups

  • Pregnancy and Parenting Programs and Classes - Scripps offers a wide variety of classes to guide you from pregnancy through your baby’s birth and parenting. All classes are taught by certified, caring, experienced instructors who specialize in prenatal and postnatal education. Scripps recognizes your need for knowledge and confidence at this important time. Classes are offered countywide. Registration is required.

  • Preparing Your Mind & Body for Childbirth - This course teaches childbirth preparation basics. Couples learn effective ways to reduce stress and increase comfort during labor, including breathing and relaxation techniques. Medications, hospital procedures and cesarean birth are also discussed.

  • Accelerated Childbirth Class - This course teaches the Preparing Your Mind and Body for Childbirth curriculum over two days.

  • Refresher Childbirth Class - A review for parents who have previously taken a childbirth course. Labor, birth, breathing practice and updates about medications and hospital procedures are included.

  • And Baby Makes Four… or More - This class is for 4 to 6-year-old children and their parents and helps the entire family get ready for the new baby. Special stories, safety discussion and hands-on activities focus on the child’s new role.

  • Breastfeeding Your Baby - This class separates facts from fallacies. Information is provided on getting started and preventing breast discomfort to help ensure a positive experience. Dads are encouraged to attend.

  • Dogs and Babies: Playing it Safe! - Expectant families will learn how to prepare their pet for baby’s arrival. Course includes prevention and planning tips.

  • Getting Ready for Baby - This is a two-session class that will help new parents gain skills to care for their newborn. The first class covers holding, bathing, diapering, swaddling and comforting a newborn. The second class is taught by a pediatrician. Facts will be discussed regarding newborn care, appearance and characteristics. Both parents are encouraged to attend.

  • Grandparenting Today - Grandparents are a link between generations. This class will provide information to help parents transition to grandparents. Topics: Back to Sleep, Car Seat Safety and Infant Care.

  • Hospital Tour for Expectant Parents - This orientation explains where to enter the hospital when you arrive in labor and provides information on how to streamline your admission process. No children allowed on tours.
  • Get to Know Your Maternity Benefits – Contact the Scripps Concierge at (844) 884-7266 or qualcomm.service@scrippshealth.org to learn about Maternity Benefits specific to the Premier Plan, including the Maternity Bundle, which may offer you a single bunded rate for your pregnancy, delivery, and post-partum care when using a qualifying Scripps Provider, as well as coverage for Doula support services before, during, and after your pregnancy.
